This £5 million development was built to provide new affordable housing in the area and, despite having to overcome several challenges during development, won the Best High Volume New Housing Development award at the East Midlands LABC Building Excellence Awards
Blue Street was also shortlisted for Best Social/Affordable Housing Development.
This scheme was built on the former Pilgrims Food depot site and not only serves to provide high quality affordable rented and shared ownership properties for local residents, but also removes the prominent eyesore which the abandoned depot caused.
Work on the development commenced in June 2014 and the project entailed the design and construction of 41 new affordable houses with associated ground works, highways, service connections and landscaping.
The scheme provides a mixture of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom properties split into flats and two and three storey town houses, thirty three for rent and eight available for shared ownership.
The properties are of timber frame construction supported by piled and ground beam foundations.
The project is designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and Secured by Design, with warranties provided by NHBC.
Blue Street received investment support of £160,000 from Boston Borough Council and £1 million from the Homes and Communities Agency, with Boston Borough Council taking a very involved and pro-active approach towards the scheme's development.
The homes were built by local building company D Brown Building Contractors Ltd and, to address any possible flood risks, there is no living accommodation on the ground floor - garages have instead been installed on these levels.
The play area is to be managed by Boston Borough Council.
