Many older people, or people with some support need, want to live independently but like the reassurance of knowing that help is at hand in an emergency.
Our independent living schemes provide a friendly and safe place to live independently. You’ll have your own home, with as much privacy as you want, but within a secure environment.
Most schemes provide flats within a main building, but some also offer bungalows on the same site. These are let unfurnished and can be decorated to your own taste.
Each property is fully self-contained, with its own kitchen, shower or bathroom, living area and one or two bedrooms. (Studio flats have a combined living area and bedroom). But you also have the use of shared facilities, which can include a communal lounge, gardens, laundry room and, in some locations, cafes or hairdressers on site.
Our schemes are situated in the heart of communities, with many local services such as healthcare, leisure and social activities.
Our independent living flats and bungalows are linked to a 24 hour emergency alarm service, so help is always at hand if you need it, any time of the day or night.
You can call for help by simply pressing a button or pulling the alarm cord fitted in your home. Your call will be answered quickly and efficiently by your scheme manager or by our friendly and experienced alarm service centre. They will contact your friends or relatives or call the emergency services, and stay on the line with you until help arrives.
Many of our housing schemes have a manager on site every weekday from 9am to 5pm. Others have a mobile manager who regularly visits the scheme. They can also be called out in emergencies through the alarm service in your home.
Your scheme manager is responsible for ensuring your homes are safe, secure and well-maintained. They can offer advice on managing your health and well-being, and ensure you are getting all the income you are entitled to. They will also help you take part in social and recreational activities, both within the scheme and in the local community.
Some of our independent living schemes offer extra care, with personal carers on site 24/7 to provide support to anyone who needs it. This can include help with tasks such as bathing, dressing or cooking or supporting people with physical or sensory disabilities. Meals are also available on site in a communal dining room or cafe.
